i used to race home after school to play with my atari. though my sister and i preferred frogger, we also used to regularly play e.t., star wars and strawberry shortcake's berry mix-up. oh how our hands would hurt from that awful joystick.
what has got your britches in a ball?
hootchie holly hobbie
sk8r grrl strawberry shortcake
not-so little people
weighty weebles
i tend to get very excited when i see that some of my favorite toys as a child have been reproduced for my children's generation, however i am almost always disappointed. my sudden sense of nostalgia is almost instantly replaced by a deep sadness, and an awareness that even more our beloved toys are one step closer to the bratz collection.
i know, i know... i'm always thinking about halloween. (btw, annual party is 10/20/07- book your sitters now... no excuses!)
what were some of your best halloween costumes? for some reason, adam was a vampire almost every year (and that keeps reappearing in our adult life- a la anne rice!) and there was a sweet "mac tonight" costume in his elementary years.
-
- "When the clock strikes half past 6, babe
- time to head for golden lights.
- It's a good time for the great taste, --dinner!
- At McDonald's, it's Mac Tonight.
- Come on make it Mac Tonight!"
especially for some more 80's fun, i was a care bear, smurfette, pippi longstocking, madonna (1988 fourth grade- and someone asked if i was a prostitute!!! i had to ask my mom what that was.) and the cat in the hat.
i'll have to dig out some pictures.
(yea, yeah it's not tuesday... oh well)
we all have songs (not necessarily favorites) that spark memories of our past. let's make a virtual mixtape of our former years.
here's a few for me:
elvis costello/cracker/morrissey/the cure... one awesome summer with my sister and that old escort.
sarah mclachlan "ice cream" (adam)
vanilla ice "ice ice baby" (those long busrides in elementary school)
kris kros "i missed the bus" (my long lost friend, tanya '92)
salt n' pepa "shoop" (homecoming '95)
outkast "caroline" (kylinn in utero '04)
james (adam helping to redo my childhood room '95)
madonna "ray of light" (camping at the pinery '98)
beatles anything (my mother)
neil diamond "cracklin rosie" (amy right playing tonk in my sisters old apartment '98?)
jewel "who will save your soul?" (swim team- erica '96)
pretty much anything by O(+> brings back fond memories of adam, lisa, brandy and the occasional erica.
will smith "wild wild west" (our wedding '00)
missy elliot "work it" (steve & jacq's wedding '02)

after realizing that i could not be madonna, i wanted to be a dentist.
today's special, anyone?

i also watched a lot of MASH, though that may not necessarily be considered to be a children's show...
in first grade i only wore corduroy pants. i hated them because they made so much noise when i walked, but my mom forced me to wear them. it was many, many years before i could break out the cords again (actually, it was during my rad poser-grunge-rock fad in junior high)
but by choice- i wore many many pairs of shortalls with one strap down. i also must confess to wearing a vision streetwear sk8boards shirt until it rotted and owning "dwyane wayne" sunglasses. thus completes my 1989 fifth-grade wardrobe.
thank god that i'm so cool now.
what was your favorite album as a kid?
mine was 'thriller.' hands down. but i bet you'd have never guessed that.
