so perhaps this is totally old news, but adam was flipping through channels the other day and stumbled upon the new scooby doo get a clue show which i was previously boycotting because it was not the original scooby doo that i had grown up with.
so what has changed? well everything. and that alone is disappointing. however, i remember watching episodes with special guests like jonathan winters and sandy duncan and thinking, "who the heck are they?" at the time, i only knew sandy duncan from a 1980 broadway production of peter pan. my sister and i would stare at the cartoon to see if we could see her glass eye. we never could. that was disappointing, too.
but think about it- like the muppets and every other show that we watched as children, there was an entire secret dialog for our parents. jokes that we thought were so funny, but that went completely over our heads. and then i realized that my parents were laughing. they not only understood the jokes and innuendo, but i thought, perhaps these shows were really for them. no. that would be crazy.
so... on the new scooby doo, the token bad guy (dr phinius phibes) has two side kicks geared toward our generation... none other than napoleon and kip dynamite. i was stunned that my fat lard (JK!) of a neighbor, tina (who watches a ton of cartoons that we do not because we can not afford >boomerang<) had not alerted me to this fascinating discovery.
now please excuse me. my lips need moisturizing real bad.

Were you going to complete that last thought? Because you were going somewhere and it just kind of trails off.
Anyway, yes, I do watch the new Scooby Doo. I probably watch more cartoons than anything else on television. I have been doing that since BEFORE I had kids.
Boomerang is my weakness, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, The Flinstones, Secret Squirrel, Hong Kong Fuey, The Pink Panther, Smurfs, Snorks, Wacky Races, Scooby Doo... those are just a few of the shows I watch in any given week on that channel.
See, the reason is that I always wanted to be an animator, but never had the drawing skills to do it - so instead, I just learned everything I could. So now I just watch cartoons and look at the details and the style and even the writing.
Believe me, some cartoons are better than some of the crap television shows on today.
Too bad romper room and Captain Kangaroo are gone. They really were strictly for kids!
sorry jerbear, blogger thought the rest of the sentence was super secret html. i fixed it.
i want boomerang. i do. but i don't think that you can just add that one channel. remember we didn't get your sweet ass deal, so we pay the same for less money.
but they still continue to thank me for four years as a faithful customer.
Well, at least you get Cartoon Network. That's the next best thing.
You "pay the same for less money" ? - wtf?
