Because I’m a Vegetarian, people assume I must only eat crazy foods and that I must have forced the rest of my family to follow suit. Neither of which are true. However, because I have a young toddler, I’m often asked what I feed her. To answer your questions and address your concerns, I’ve decided to share my list of healthy snack foods for your enjoyment. Although I do not eat meat, my family does, but my food choices have impacted the way in which I choose foods and incorporate all the daily needs into their diets. Not all proteins have to come from meat, and not all calcium has to come from milk. I also happen to be Hypoglycemic, so I also watch for unnecessary sugars, since no one needs them anyway. We can all live without juice. The only "food" that I refuse to feed my daughter is gelatin. She can eat meat, but not spare parts. That's just disgusting.
Being that Kylinn is 18 months now, she really enjoys helping to choose her foods. She also really enjoys dipping, so we offer things like gelatin-free yogurt, ranch dressing, mild salsa (blended with gelatin-free sour cream), and pasta sauce to make her snacks more interesting. Dips are something that I learned from my friend Stacy, when her daughter Kaia (now 4!) was in love with chips and salsa at 18 months. Enjoy the list. I hope you can get some new ideas. Mealtime doesn’t have to be a struggle.
