yes, that absolutely is the most logical thing to do

we've just paid off another student loan (hooray for us- 3 down, 1 to go!)

however, the good old us department of education mailed me my last notice and adjusted balance.

the final amount due: 26 cents.

seriously? it cost more than twice that to mail it!

perhaps they do it just so they could seriously 'eff your credit rating and charge late fees if it's not paid. but i find it absolutely ridiculous.

That's bureaucracy for ya!

Not only does postage cost twice that amount, but they had to send you a letter stating you owed 26 cents - I'm sure the cost of the paper it was printed on, the envelope it was mailed in and the postage on the envelope all added up to more than 26 cents. They should have never sent a letter, and they would actually come out ahead.

when we paid off andy's loans they did that too. and it was something like 26 cents as well! how funny. i just called them and said "seriously?" and they said "yeah. but we will waive it." waived the 26 cents and sent a letter congratulation me that it's paid off and we owe nothing more.

try it. you could use 26 cents to purchase .00001 of a gallon of gas.
