are you a phelps phan?

wow! if you're already not, you should be!

aside from supporting a wolverine, he's simply an incredible swimmer. it's funny to watch swimming ever since my "retirement." i still find myself holding my breath when watching a flip-turn, or getting anxious before the start of their race. this morning, my rotator cuff was hurting. i wonder if i was sleep-swimming or something.

anyway, michael phelps is both horrifically ugly and athletically fascinating. i simply can't seem to stop watching him. it was so amazing to see him claim his tenth gold medal and watch his sister crying with excitement and pride. what is even more incredible, is to note most of the olympic swimmers poor techniques (which is easy to critique when you're not the one in the water) but i'm talking serious issues here: sloppy movement, chopping hands, earrings, lack of swim caps, etc. what about drag??? are they so fast that it simply doesn't matter? did anyone happen to see the chubby japanese male? i'm shocked. it's so amazing, that they can be so "off" and yet be smashing world records. i was practically ready to wax my eyebrows off to break my school records.

but i digress. perhaps my kids won't become competitive swimmers, but i hope they always love each other as much as the phelps do. in the meantime, congrats to michael phelps- what an accomplishment.

I'm a fan.
I never was a swimmer and I find myself pushing with my feet when they do their turns, it's crazy! That moment when he sister just broke down after he won his 10th was awesome! I liked her reaction off to the side better than his mom's same old same old.
And you're right he is horrifically ugly but I hear he gets lots of tail. See what celebrity does? It's make the ugly VERY attractive.

Isn't it interesting? I also find myself criticizing his strokes - his freestyle is off-balance, his elbows don't clear the water in the fly, etc. Easy to be an armchair quarterback I know, but how totally AMAZING must he be if he can swim that inefficiently and still kick total butt?

Josh loves him - at open swim yesterday he kept pretending he was Michael Phelps.
