i don't guano be batgirl anymore

(MAC cosmetics live chat)

Meagan: Could you tell me if your mascara contains Guano or Guanine?

MAC girl: Gosh, Meagan! I hope not.

Meagan: I just heard that most major companies do and I'm horrified.

MAC girl: That's disgusting!!! Hold on...

MAC girl: (issues customer service number to call)

MAC girl: Where did you hear that?

Meagan: It's all over the web. Arbonne boasts about their "guano-free" mascara.

MAC girl: Gross. I need to read more on the web. Is there anything else that I can help you with today?

Meagan: Nope, but I'm definately going mascara-free today.

MAC girl: I'm going to go take mine off right now. Thanks for the info.

For years, another ingredient was rumored to be used in mascara — bat guano. According to the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, the rumor is false.
After contacting customer service (646.602.7771) I was told that the Pro Longlash and the Splashproof do not list neither Guano nor Guanine in their ingredients. I did not ask the representitive to check the other mascaras.

“The color additive guanine is approved by the FDA and listed in the Code of Federal Regulations,” wrote Irene Malbin of the cosmetic association in an e-mail. “By law, guanine must be derived from fish scales. It is NOT derived from guano. In addition, there are NO guano or feces based ingredients used in any cosmetics.”
