on sunday, we attended the annual "scottish sunday" at jefferson avenue presbyterian church in indian village in detroit. it's a phenonomenal historic cathedral that has celebrated st. andrew since the 1970's with an annual scottish service with a kirking (blessing) of the tartans, the st. andrew society pipers, period scotsmen with swords and flags and a ceilidh (festival- pronounced "kay-lee") following the service. this year, uncle bruce, becky & maddie joined us, and thouroughly enjoyed watching the highland dancers and doing a little dancing of their own. tegan & kylinn received tons of complements on their (anderson tartan) kilts, and tegan picked up a little honey. well, actually he had several, but he seemed to only have eyes for this little one.
afterward, an anthropology researcher from wayne state came up to us to exchange information because she would like to add us to her research on american families actively raising their children in scottish culture. i'm excited to be a part of it. the kids certainly enjoy the fun that their scottish heritage (anderson and mc gregor) brings.
